LOBAMBA – September 19, 2008 will be a public holiday.

Elections and Boundaries Commission Chairman Chief Gija, addressing a press conference yesterday afternoon, said the aforementioned day (Friday) had been reserved specifically for the Secondary General Elections.

Dlamini said: "September 19 is expected to be a big day for the elections hence it is declared a holiday."

Chief Gija, in his brief address, pronounced that the much-awaited nomination exercise will be held this weekend (August 2-3).

"The nomination will be conducted in all the chiefdoms and centres where the voters’ registration exercise took place," Dlamini said.

"The reason we have selected two dates is to allow the chiefdoms to decide on the exact day they will be comfortable with to conduct the nomination."

He said the nomination would commence from 9am.

Dlamini, who is the Chief of Nkamanzi in the Northern Hhohho region, announced that the Primary General Elections would be held on August 23, 2008.

He said the primary election would be conducted from as early as 7am until 5pm.

The cool as cucumber chairman promulgated that the Secondary General Election would be held in polling centres to be announced and confirmed by the EBC.

Chief Gija said it would be a Friday (September 19) between 7am and 6pm when the electorate would go to the secondary polls.

The general election will produce Members of Parliament, Constituency Headmen and Constituency Councillors.

A total of 350 788, out of the 400 000 eligible Swazis, have registered for the elections.

It is worth mentioning that there will be no new Parliament before the historic 40/40 Double Celebrations billed for September 6, 2008.
